Private doctors in Allahabad went on strike on Friday to protest against an attack on their colleague Rahul Gupta. All the government-run hospitals have been put on alert following the strike.
The strike, called by the Indian Medical Association (IMA), began at 8 a.m and will last till 8 p.m.
The protesting doctors are demanding strict action against Gupta's attackers. They also want two doctors - Dilip Chaurasia and Manisha Dwiwedi - of the Swaroop Rani hospital to be suspended.
The protesters said they have no faith in Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav's assurance of security for doctors.
