Punjab Police Sunday said it had busted the supply line of a top drug cartel emanating from Pakistan, seizing 12 kg heroin which was in transit from the neighbouring country to New Delhi via Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab, and arresting two smugglers.

Inspector General of Police (Amritsar border) Ishwar Chander said police teams were tracking the heroin consignment sent by Pakistan-based smugglers to their Indian counterparts which led to the recovery of the heroin valued at Rs.60 crore in the international market.

This was the second major seizure in recent days by Punjab Police.

It had neutralised an international drug cartel June 27 with the seizure of 27 kg heroin in transit from Pakistan to Rajasthan (via Jammu and Kashmir).

In Sunday's seizure, police seized two Chinese-made .30 bore pistols and ammunition.

The smugglers arrested were Bhajan Singh of Punjab's Amritsar and Raman Pandit of Pitampura, Delhi.

Pandit was the end-recipient of the drug consignment, police said.

Bhajan Singh was arrested with the consignment near Tarn Taran, 50 km from Amritsar.

Chander said Pakistan-based smuggler Akram Dayal had sent the consignment through Pakistan-administered Kashmir to Jammu and Kashmir where it was collected by a man named Gurjit Singh.
