Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi Thursday said that Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi was right in accusing the AGP of having links with the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA).

"What Rahul Gandhi had said is 100 percent true. The AGP had links with the ULFA, and everybody knows that. They (AGP) are actually the cousins of ULFA," Gogoi told a press conference here.

Asked for evidence to prove the link, Gogoi said: "I have evidence to prove the allegations but I am not bound to disclose it now."

He added that the Asom Gana Parishad came to power with the help of insurgents but lost peoples' faith later.

The chief minister also said that many Congress leaders were killed with the help of insurgents when the AGP ruled Assam.

WikiLeaks recently revealed that in 2006 Gandhi had equated the AGP with Palestinian group Hamas, and called the AGP leaders insurgents.

It also claimed that the Congress vice president had said the US should allow Hamas to form a government as India had allowed separatists to form a government in Assam.

The AGP condemned Gandhi and threatened legal action against him.

AGP general secretary Durga Das Boro said the remarks were not expected from Gandhi, who is projected as a future prime minister by his party, and it reflected his lack of knowledge about Assam and the northeast.
