Maharashtra's first, the Reliance Infrastructure-promoted Mumbai Metro One Pvt Ltd (MMOPL) completed four years of service on Friday, after ferrying over 400 million commuters, an official said.

The mark the special occasion, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated a "Majhi Metro Art" train of award-winning paintings, poems and photographs at an art festival held here and a coffee-table book on the Metro line, besides several other initiatives at the Versova Metro station.

Fadnavis also launched the country's first Mobile Metro ticketing product, Skiiip Q, enabling commuters to avoid long queues and generate a QR code on their mobile phones.

"The Mumbai Metro One has completely changed the face and space of mass rapid transport in Mumbai, and is the pioneer of the Metro movement. The system, planning and execution of Mumbai Metro One will help shape upcoming Metro projects in the city," Fadnavis said on the occasion.

He said with MMOPL, the commuters do not need a secondary transport system, as it takes them very close to their destination, the distances between the stations are lesser compared to the suburban train networks, and the Metro system has reduced pollution to the equivalent of planting three crore trees.

The four-year history and journey of MMOPL has been documented and creatively brought out in the coffee-table book, said a spokesperson.

The 11.40-km-long Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar line connects the eastern and western suburbs and has steadily grown in patronage, with the 400 million user-mark achieved in the past four years, through up to 382 trips daily with highest punctuality and cleanliness levels.
