A 26-year-old doctor working at the Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) hospital was on Monday found hanging in his rented flat in central Delhi, police said.

Police said Sidharth Shakar Mahapatra, hailing from Odisha, was found hanging from a ceiling fan by his flatmate and colleague at their accommodation in Old Rajender Nagar area.

A suicide note recovered from the spot read: "I hate the life of a prisoner. I want to be free. I want to get out of delusion."

Mahapatra was staying in the flat along with two other doctors. One of them had gone to Jharkhand while the other was on night duty on Sunday when he took his life, police said.

"We received information around 8.30 a.m. regarding the incident. Prima facie, it appears that Mahapatra committed suicide. A police team and forensic experts visited the spot to probe the case and collect samples," Deputy Commissioner of Police Mandeep Singh Randhawa said.

The flatmate returned home early on Monday morning and found the door locked from inside. After receiving no response from Mahapatra, he peeped inside and found him hanging. He then informed the police.

The body has been shifted to the RML Hospital and his family informed.
