A part of a road near the India Gate in central Delhi has caved in, disrupting traffic, police said on Thursday.

"A part of road from India Gate to Ashoka Road caved in near 14 Windsor Place due to heavy rains on Wednesday evening," Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Garima Bhatnagar told IANS.

The area has been cordoned off.

"Our officer have barricaded the area and the civic agencies would soon fill the area which is five to six feet wide and about eight to nine feet in depth," Bhatnagar said.

Delhi received 63.5 mm rainfall on Wednesday.

Heavy rains continued to lash Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR) for the second consecutive day on Thursday causing waterlogging and traffic jams in many areas.

Commuters faced a tough time on the Thursday morning as traffic snarls were witnessed on roads leading to Gurgaon and Noida at several traffic intersections.
