Brazil football legend-turned-politician Romario has been appointed president of the Congressional committee investigating corruption in the country's football following the arrest of former Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) president Jose Maria Marin.

The 49-year-old World Cup-winner called for investigation after the corruption scandal that hit world football's governing body FIFA in May. Marin is one of the several football officials under investigation by the United States for financial wrongdoing.

He also promised that the probe will look into all the confederation's accounts and would investigate the role of its president Marco Polo Del Nero, reports insideworldfootball.com on Thursday.

Romario also said he is "100 percent prepared to promote a conclusive change" in Brazilian football.

He entered politics as a Member of Parliament for Socialist party, coming to power on a platform of defending the rights of people with disabilities.

The 1994 World Cup winner has been a longstanding vocal critic of the Brazilian football federation.
