The +Tamil Nadu government has recovered temple land worth around Rs.1,700 crore from encroachers in the last three years, a minister said Tuesday.
P. Chendur Pandian, minister for Hindu religious and charitable endowments, told the state assembly that special groups comprising retired officials and land surveyors have been formed to protect temple assets.
He said that in the last three years, 142.11 acres in various places in the state was encroached upon by 3,253 people.
However, their land occupation has been regularised by making them proper tenants and by providing them necessary facilities, he said.
