Rs.23 lakh was seized from the vehicle of an engineer working for the state government in Jharkhand's Ramgarh district, police said Monday.
Premnath Sah, an engineer in the Public Works Department (PWD) of the state, was going to Patna from Ranchi. On a tip-off, police stopped his vehicle near Tyre More of Ramgarh district on Sunday, around 45 km from Ranchi. A suitcase filled with cash was seized, police officials said.
Rs.20 lakh was recovered in Rs.1,000-denomination notes, while Rs.3 lakh was found in notes of Rs.500 denomination.
The engineer told the police that he received the cash through a middleman after selling his piece of land in Patna. Income tax officials were called in to ascertain the source of the money.
