In the first case of its kind post demonetisation, three motorbike-borne robbers on Monday looted Rs 5 lakh cash at gun point from a bank official going to refill an ATM here, police said.
The incident took place at around 2.30 p.m when a cash van came to replenish a State Bank of India (SBI) ATM in Pandav Nagar area of east Delhi.
The robbers snatched a bag containing Rs 5 lakh cash from a bank officer, who was going to refill the ATM, a senior police officer said.
The ATM security guard also fired at the robbers, but missed, he said.
The bag contained Rs 5 lakh, all new currency notes of Rs 2,000 and Rs 500, the officer said.
Police have registered a case and are scanning the CCTV footage of nearby shops to identify the robbers, he said.
