The central government needs Rs.7,000 crore to implement a scheme for building sports infrastructure at the block-level in all states across India, Sports Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said here Tuesday.
For the same, the state governments would be required to provide around 5-6 acres of land.
"Allocation would vary from state-to-state. The project would be extended to the panchayat level too," Sonowal said.
The scheme -- Rajiv Gandhi Khel Abhiyan (RGKA) -- proposes to construct a sports complex for both indoor and outdoor games in each block at a cost of Rs.1.60 crore.
