The Sports Authority of India (SAI) has signed a Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) with the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY), under which the institute will impart yoga training to sports persons at the its stadia here.

The MOU was signed on May 31 between SAI Secretary S.S. Chhabra and MDNIY Director Ishwar V. Basavaraddi in the presence of SAI Director General Injeti Srinivas.

"The MDNIY will also conduct certificate courses in 'Yogasna for health promotion' and 'Pranayam and meditation for health promotion'," said a SAI release on Wednesday.

"In addition, they will also conduct a foundation course in yoga training for wellness," the release added.

The MOU would enable SAI facilities to host yoga experts whereby professional inputs in various aspects of yoga can be provided to sportspersons and public at large.

Practice of yoga has benefited several athletes, and this new initiative is aimed at making yoga an essential part of the training curriculum of national and international athletes.

The initiative has been also taken to promote yoga as a sport.
