The Supreme Court order banning sale of liquor along highways would affect 50 per cent liquor outlets in Goa, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said on Tuesday, adding that the government would consult the state Advocate General before issuing a statement on the issue.
"For Goa, which is a tourism-oriented state, a small state where highways criss-cross, there is a bit of a problem. Almost 50 per cent of the business would be affected. This is the preliminary estimate," Parsekar told reporters.
Goa has more than 9,000 bars, a large number of them located along state and national highways, which face closure following the Supreme Court's order of last week.
"I am waiting for the order. I still have not read the order. Once we get that, we will sit with the Advocate General. We will consult him," Parsekar said.
