SC notice to advocate for foul language against lawmakers

The Supreme Court Friday issued notice to advocate M.L.Sharma for making derogatory statement against lawmakers by saying that all politicians are corrupt and some had criminal antecedents.

The court sought his response why he should not be debarred from filing PILs.

Taking note of the "irresponsible and scandalous allegation" by the advocate, the constitution bench of Justice J.S.Khehar, Justice J. Chelameswar, Justice Madan B. Lokur, Justice Kurian Joseph and Justice A.K. Goel issued notice to him seeking response in one week.

The court hauled up Sharma taking exception to his description of politicians as he got up to address the constitution bench hearing a batch of petitions including one by him challenging the validity of the constitutional amendment and the enabling NJAC Act, 2014 putting in place National Judicial Appointment Commission for the appointment of judges to higher judiciary.

The moment Sharma got up to address the court, Justice Lokur asked him how could he use words like "corrupt politicians and in-house criminals".

Justice Khehar also asked: "How can you use such expressions, they are lawmakers. They are members of parliament."

Not allowing him to make submission, Justice Khehar issued show case notice.

"We don't want people making political statements before the court," the court said brushing aside Sharma's plea of innocence.

"You do case after case," the court said rejecting Sharma's submission that he had no intention of running down lawmakers.
