The Supreme Court said it will hear on Friday the CBSE's plea seeking three months time instead of four weeks given to it for the re-conduct of the All India Pre Medical and Dental Test (AIPMT), cancelled by the court following leak of the question papers.
The court had on Monday, while cancelling the AIPMT held on May 3, asked the Central Board of Secondary Education to re-conduct the entrance test within four weeks.
A vacation bench of Justice R.K. Agrawal and Justice Abhay Manohar Sapre on Thursday agreed to hear the matter after Solicitor General Ranjit Kumar told the court it was not possible for the board to re-conduct the exam within the time given by the court.
While ordering the re-conduct of the examination in four weeks, the court had noted that on previous occasions, "such type of examination had been held anew within a period of one month".
While directing the re-conduct of the test, it had observed that the examination held on May 3 was rendered "futile by a handful of elements seeking to reap undue financial gain by subjecting the process to their evil manoeuvres" and the reconduct was the "price the stakeholders would have to suffer in order to maintain the impeccable and irrefutable sanctity and credibility of a process of examination, to assess the innate worth and capability of the participating candidates".
