The Supreme Court is taking steps to curtail paper-based work to the minimum and making the task of justice delivery easier as well as faster.
In the course of hearing of a case on Thursday, Chief Justice Jagdish Singh Khehar said that in a matter of a few months, bulky paper books having petitions, documents and annexures could become history.
According to him, the Supreme Court is busy evolving a system of filing petitions, wherein just the basic facts will have to be mentioned, including the ground(s) on which a high court order would being challenged before it.
The Chief Justice said in six to seven months, there would be no need for filing voluminous paper books containing petitions and judgments of the high courts impugned by the petitioners and the annexures.
He said that the top court would electronically gather the high court and trial court records and there would be no need for filing them along with the petition.
Once in place, the system will not just ease the task of judges to go through voluminous documents, it will also save considerable time of the court, opined a lawyer.
