Security at the Kerala state secretariat was tightened Monday following receipt of a threat letter believed to be from the Indian Mujahideen warning that certain vital places would be bombed in the coming few days.

Speaking to IANS, an official attached to the office of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, said the state intelligence department has asked the government to beef up security.

Since April 24, only people with passes are being allowed into the secretariat, the official said on the condition of anonymity.

Incidentally, Chandy's office has open access to people. Recently, the chief minister was taken aback when he saw a man sitting in his official chair.

When Chandy asked the man who he was, he said: "I am the prime minister." It was discovered later that the man was of unsound mind.
