Senior Uttar Pradesh police officer Amitabh Thakur on Monday proceeded on long leave, alleging discrimination and "improper posting".
The 1992 batch UP cadre Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, Thakur, who was posted as Inspector General (Rules and Manuals), in a letter to Director General of Police (DGP) Sulkhan Singh, has said that it was "sad that he had been posted to a non-cadre post under a junior officer".
He said in the new post "there was virtually no official work". Further, he has been posted under Jasveer Singh, his batch junior in the IPS Gradation list, he said in the letter.
Thakur, known for being honest and upright and an activist, has said that he was not being promoted in the name of baseless enquiries.
No progress, was however, being made in those enquiries, hence he was proceeding on long leave, he said.
Thakur has been in the news ever since he lodged an FIR, alleging former Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav had threatened him over telephone in July 2015.
The then Samajwadi Party (SP) government had suspended him for the move and had unleashed many probes against him.
Thakur and his wife have been whistleblowers of sorts and have been instrumental in the multi-crore mining scam case probe, leading to the imprisonment of cabinet Minister Gayatri Prajapati.
Mulayam Singh has also been asked by the court to give his voice sample for further investigations.
