Smoke was still emanating from merchant vessel SSL Kolkata, that was devastated by a fire in the Bay of Bengal on June 14, even as the authorities continued with the salvage operation on Wednesday, a defence spokesperson said.

" Minimal smoke (is) emanating from the ship. Salvage operation is in progress," the spokesperson said.

Meanwhile, salvage operation experts from Holland were proceeding towards the vessel in a Coast Guard ship, with additional specialist equipment for the operation.

A Tug from Kakinada is also being called for supporting the salvage operation, the spokesperson said.
