Congress president Sonia Gandhi Sunday condoled the death of Labour Minister Sis Ram Ola, 86, and said the nation had lost a leader of stature and rare earthy wisdom.
"A grassroots leader who fought for the cause of people, Ola had a solid connect with his constituency, and his invincible electoral record reflected the same," Gandhi said in a statement.
Extending her condolences to the bereaved family, Gandhi said: " The Congress party, the state of Rajasthan, as indeed the nation, have lost a leader of stature and rare earthy wisdom."
Ola died at a Gurgaon hospital Sunday. He is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter.
He was a member of the Rajasthan legislative assembly from 1957 to 1990, and a cabinet minister in the state government from 1980 to 1990.
He received the Padma Shri in 1968 for social work.
