Budget carrier SpiceJet on Wednesday said that it will operate special flights from Gaya and Indore to Saudi Arabia to ferry passengers for the grand annual Islamic pilgrimage of Haj in Mecca.
According to the airline, the special flights are expected to ferry more than 8,000 pilgrims from August to October.
"It is a great privilege for us to be a part this grand holy ritual and eagerly look forward to serve our nation on this occasion," G.P. Gupta, Chief Administrative Officer and Accountable Manager, SpiceJet, was quoted in a statement as saying.
"Haj is a lifetime experience and SpiceJet will make every effort to ensure a hassle-free and delightful travel experience to all its customers."
The airline also said that it plans to deploy two Airbus 320 to ferry pilgrims from Gaya and Indore respectively.
"The flights will be operated from the two Indian cities to Jeddah and Madina between 4th August and 3rd September 2016," the statement said.
"The return journey for the pilgrims back to Gaya is scheduled from 17th September and to Indore from 30th September. The whole activity is expected to be executed by 16th October 2016."
