Indigo and blue is the colour of the season if you plan to give your house a makeover, says interior designer Mala Sapra, whose clientele includes known names like Jaya Bachchan, Maneka Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and Shubha Mudgal.

"This season, blue and indigo are the colours in trend," Sapra, founder of Cottons & Satins, told IANS on the sidelines of day one of India Design ID 2016.

However, Sapra believes in the "each to its own" concept when it comes to her clients.

"Like the way you don't want to wear the same clothes every day. Things work in the same way for your home. We work according to customers' requirement. We try to give them the products that they want, but then we give it in a different way so that it doesn't look monotonous," she said.

Sapra showcased her latest collection 'La Voliere', designed by Adil Ahmed. Based on the colours of iconic oriental blue pottery, the collection is inspired by ancient Chinese folk tales, where the emperors of yore bred rare albino peacocks in large aviaries as a symbol of their power and pursuit of perfection.

She finds inspiration from within the country.

"We got so much in our country that we can produce (everything) here without importing things from any other country. We try to encourage the craftsmen so that we can bring out what is available here," she said.

But that doesn't mean their price points are costly.

"We always wanted to give affordable luxury. Our prices start from Rs.600 and goes upto Rs.4,500. Also, costing depends on the basic fabrics that we use. For instance, if it is silk, it will be on heavy price," she said.

Aiming to bring the best of Indian and international design to the capital, the fourth edition of India Design ID 2016 started here on Friday. With an attempt to promote India as a flourishing design destination on the global map, the exhibition witnessed the participation of brands from diverse disciplines of design - from product to interior design, architecture to conservation, installation to lighting design.
