Sri Lanka looks forward to further strengthening ties with China and aims to attract more Chinese investments, Deputy Minister of State Enterprise Development Eran Wickremeratne said on Thursday.
Wickremeratne said Chinese investments were vital for Sri Lanka and a mega $1.4 billion mega Port City project funded by China Communications Construction Co Ltd would soon resume construction in Colombo.
The project was suspended in March last year due to environmental concerns, but the suspension was lifted last month after an Environmental Impact Assesment was obtained, Xinhua news agency said.
He said that following Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe's official visit to China, Sri Lanka hoped to sign key MoUs with the Chinese government which would benefit the island nation.
