Delhi University's "open days", which provide guidance on admission procedures, ran packed houses Wednesday with students and parents finding sessions very useful.

The nine-day open sessions, which began Wednesday, are aimed at providing students information on admission process and answering their queries on the courses and other things related to the four-year under-graduate programme.

"Such sessions are very useful because it gives one a holistic idea of how to go about the admission process," Manish Kumar, a student aspiring to study political science, told IANS.

"I was clueless about whether my son could qualify to study in DU. He has studied several vocational courses in the university. Now, I am happy to know that he can include them in his best of four percentage," Saket Ranjan, father of a student, told IANS.

Some students also had queries on the four-year under-graduate programme introduced by the university last year.

"I specifically wanted information on the four-year programme and the several subjects under it. I am happy that my doubts have been clarified," said Sarah Nepram, a student from Manipur.

Queried on admission under sports quota, J.M. Khurrana, DU's students welfare dean, said: "We request students applying under the sports quota to fill in the general optical marks registration (OMR) forms so that in case one doesn't qualify under the quota, they can get admission."

The first session started Wednesday and will continue till Thursday in the university's north campus. In its south campus, the sessions will be at the S.P. Jain Centre May 23-24, following which they will be held again at the north campus May 26-30.

The admission to DU's 77 colleges for the four-year under-graduate programme begins June 2.
