Surprise checks at Delhi petrol pumps; two fined

The Delhi government has fined two petrol pumps in the national capital for discrepancies in measurement of fuel and not displaying a verification certificate, a statement said on Thursday.

As part of a drive to check adulteration and malpractices in the dispensing of petrol and diesel across pumps in Delhi, the department of food, supplies and consumer affairs conducted surprise checks on six petrol pumps of the city.

"Six petrol pumps -- at Majnu ki Tilla and Ghevra in north Delhi, Vikaspuri in west Delhi, Jasola and Dhansa in south Delhi and Mayur Vihar in east Delhi were inspected. The measurements and density of the fuel and other products were checked and samples were also taken," the statement said.

"Challans were issued to two petrol pumps for discrepancies in measurement and not displaying or unavailability of verification certificate," it added.

According to the statement, six teams were constituted for the checks and each team comprised of four officials headed by an assistant commissioner of the department.
