Survey finds growing number of Eurosceptics

Moscow, Dec 2 (IANS/Sputnik) A significant share of people in European countries supports the idea of holding a referendum on leaving the EU, according to a survey.

More than half of respondents in Italy (53 per cent) said they support holding a referendum of this kind, followed by France (47 per cent), Germany (43 per cent), Spain (39 per cent), and Poland (38 per cent). The poll was conducted by Ifop for Sputnik news agency and radio.

When asked "Do you want your country to hold a referendum on leaving the EU like in Britain?", about 62 per cent of respondents in Poland, 61 per cent in Spain, 57 per cent in Germany, 53 per cent in France and 47 per cent in Italy answered in the negative.

Compared to July 2016, the share of those supporting a referendum increased in Spain from 34 per cent to 39 per cent, from 46 per cent to 53 per cent in Italy, and from 33 per cent to 38 per cent in Poland.

The poll was conducted between October 22 and 26 in France, Germany, Spain, Italy, and Poland. In total, 5,019 respondents, aged 18 and older took part in the poll.
