Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Sushma Swaraj, Wednesday met President Pranab Mukherjee to express her party's opposition to the naming of Supreme Court lawyer P.P. Rao as a member of the Lokpal selection committee.
BJP leader Ravishankar Prasad confirmed her meeting and said: "This is the first time the Lokpal is being formed, there should have been unanimity in the panel."
Sushma Swaraj registered her dissent over the name proposed by the government during a meeting at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's residence Monday to elect the fifth member of the selection committee. But she was outvoted.
She did not accept Rao's name, proposed by the prime minister, and instead suggested the name of former attorney general K. Parasaran, whose name figured in the list given to her by the government.
