Political parties in Tamil Nadu including the allies of the BJP are now up in arms against the celebration of "Sanskrit week" in Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) schools, terming the move a conspiracy to imposing another language.
In a statement issued Thursday, MDMK leader Vaiko, taking strong exception to the statement in the CBSE circular that Sanskrit is the mother of all languages said: "It is condemnable that such a poison is being injected in the minds of students in a country that comprises of different languages, culture."
The circular was sent to all CBSE schools in the country, asking them to celebrate Sanskrit Week next month.
PMK leader S.Ramadoss asked the CBSE to recall the circular and urged the body to celebrate official languages in the states.
He slammed the Sanskrit Week celebration as a move to impose Sanskrit-based culture.
Also opposing the celebration, DMK spokesperson T.K.S.Elangovan told a local TV channel that if the move is to celebrate classical language, then Tamil is also a classical language.
But the move seems to impose other languages on non-Hindi speaking states.
