India's first business repository, the Tata Central Archives (TCA), celebrated its silver jubilee with an expo and a symposium here on Saturday.
The archives has a massive collection of over 1.5 million letters, documents, photographers, images, group publications, audio-videos, memorabilia, paintings, top awards like Bharat Ratna, medals and citations of historical importance to the Tata Group, since its founding in 1868.
Pheroza Godrej, Chairperson, Godrej Archives Council, inaugurated the expo in the presence of Tata Sons COO and Tata Services chairman Farokh N. Subedar.
At the symposium, 'Collaborative Leadership', held at the Tata Management Training Centre Campus, light was shed on the evolution of archiving of over 16,00,000 non-active Tata-related archival records of evidential and historical value.
They comprise more than 15 lakh print and digital documents, 75,000 photographs, 500 plus audio-videos, collections of memorabilia spanning over 15 decades of history.
As the custodian, TCA has protected the historical legacy for future generations through appropriate preservation and conservation methods in climate-controlled repositories and sophisticated security and surveillance systems.
The TCA has emerged as the central point of information and a centre for research for Tata Group companies, scholars and public on the group's rich history.
It has also curated and organized over 20 thematic exhibitions on various Tata personalities, companies and institutions across India.
Subedar said the silver jubilee of TCA is a testament to the deep respect for the records and to capture their historical significance that the late J.R.D. Tata desired to institutionalize.
