'The Imitation Game' script appealed to Cumberbatch

Actor Benedict Cumberbatch says "The Imitation Game" script "struck a chord" with him and he wanted to play the role of the mathematician Alan Turing.

Cumberbatch had been eyeing the role since the time he was filming "Star Trek" and kept track of the project in order to get the role.

"I first learned about 'The Imitation Game' when I was filming 'Star Trek'. Back then the script was with a different studio and a different actor. I basically kept a track of the project and that, perhaps, is the only time I have done something like this to get and want a role. There was some thing about the script that really struck a chord with me," Cumberbatch said in a statement.

The 38-year-old star has already been nominated for his performance in the film for the best actor in drama category in the Golden Globe awards.

The film has received five Golden Globe nominations and will hit Indian screens Jan 23, 2015.

Besides Cumberbatch, the film also features Keira Knightley and Charles Dance.
