Producer Ashvin Gidwani's new stage directorial venture "The Scent Of A Man" will be shown to theatre enthusiasts here on Sunday.

Featuring actors Ashin Mushran, Suchitra Pillai, Bhavna and Deven Khote, the play is set in present-day Mumbai.

A comedy based on lust, lies and infidelity, its action centres around two married couples - Nikhil, a successful advertising executive and his intelligent, but slightly neurotic wife Mallika, and Tupperware lady Ananya and her husband Partho, a teacher.

With "The Scent Of A Man", Deven will be making a theatre appearance after a gap of almost 22 years.

Gidwani zeroed in on the cast after auditioning almost 150 actors for the various roles.

''The Scent of a Man' was my return to the stage after over 20 years. The build-up to our first show was terrifying and exhilarating in equal measure, but once I actually got on stage it was just fun. The play hasn't really evolved or changed over the years, and that is wonderful in itself, and our audiences seem to love it just as much as we do.

"Maybe the insanity is catching," Deven told IANS.

Talking about his directorial venture, Gidwani, who is also the Managing Director of theatre production house AGP World, said: "I'm very excited about the launch of this show. The idea is about couples of today and their attitude towards relationships! I have exploited all the emotions that define human relationships like love, jealousy, hatred and given it a comic twist.

"I would like to say it's a comedy of lust, but a slice-of-life coupled with the prevalent lifestyle of today's couples. Today's relationships are bizarre and I see comedy in every emotion, feeling and connect. Couples are together for various reasons; for love, for companionship and they finally get habituated to each other which usually ends up in insecurities, misunderstandings and distrust," he added.
