A national capital was enveloped in thick blanket of smog Tuesday as the dust particles remained suspended in the air. The Met Office has forecast rain Wednesday.

"There has been no strong wind, because of which the dust particles have remained suspended in the atmosphere," said an official of the India Meteorological Department here.

The day was cloudy with a nip in the air, and the maximum temperature settled five notches below the season's average at 25.4 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature was recorded three notches below average at 12.3 degrees Celsius.

The humidity wavered between a high of 93 percent and low of 53 percent.

"Wednesday may receive rain late in the evening and the maximum temperature is expected to hover around 26 degrees Celsius," the official added.

Monday's maximum temperature was recorded two notches below the season's average at 28.3 degrees Celsius, while the minimum was 12.6 degrees Celsius -- three notches below the season's average.
