Actor George Clooney, awaiting the release of "Tomorrowland", says he loved the film's optimism and so he decided to go for it.

"I'm not a very cynical guy, but I like doing cynical films. This was one that felt like there was none of that and sort of clean of all those kinds of things. I thought it would be fun to do," Clooney said in a statement.

In the film, Clooney plays a jaded, surly, reclusive scientist who was once a wide-eyed boy genius. He teams up with a curious teenager who has a thirst for the scientific world.

Their adventure gives a look into the future, including both the good and the bad. The answers for a better world may exist in this other worldly place called Tomorrowland.

The 54-year-old actor is part of the action in this movie, but he says he's no longer the "guy" who hits away.

"I used do in my 30s, I would do a film with some action in it where I get to punch some guy, knock him out and walk away. Now, I'm the guy that gets punched and dropped," Clooney said.

Directed by Brad Bird, the Disney film also stars Hugh Laurie, Britt Robertson, Raffey Cassidy, Tim McGraw, Kathryn Hahn, Keegan-Michael Key and Thomas Robinson.

"Tomorrowland" will hit theatres on May 22.
