Three school children were crushed to death and two others were seriously injured when they were run over by an overloaded, speeding truck in Bihar's Rohtas district Thursday, police said.

All the victims were girls who were standing near a road at Bamaur on National Highway-2, popularly known as Grand Trunk Road, waiting for their bus.

"Two of them died on the spot and another died in hospital," a police official said.

Angry over the incident, locals protested by blocking the roads for hours.

The state government has announced a compensation of Rs.2 lakh to the family of each of the victims.
