Mexico City, July 19 (IANS/EFE) Police in Mexico have seized nearly three tonnes of marijuana hidden in a house in Miguel Aleman, a town along the US border in the northeastern state of Tamaulipas, officials said.
The house in Linda Vista district was being guarded by a man who fled as soon as he spotted officers approaching, the Tamaulipas Coordination Group said.
"The door of the main entrance was open and four bales were visible. The officers inspected the house and found a tunnel converted into a warehouse, where they discovered 277 more bales of marijuana that totalled 2,798 kg," the joint federal and state security agency said in a statement.
On July 10, 38 bales of pot weighing 377 kg were seized in Colonia Los Presidentes district, while 182 bales weighing 1,451 kg were confiscated on July 16 in Colinas del Pedregal subdivision.
