Donou Kokou scored the lone goal to give visiting Togo a 1-0 win over hosts Uganda in a 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier played at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.
Kokou, who was booked earlier for a foul on Geoffrey Massa, capitalised on a good cross to send a hard ground shot that beat Ugandan goalkeeper Dennis Onyango at the far post Saturday, reports Xinhua.
Togo's skipper Emmanuel Adebayor, who also features for English Premeir League side Tottenham Hotspur, only had one shot at the Ugandan goal in the first half as he played deep behind the strikers.
Uganda missed two chances through Kizito William Luwagga and Massa in the first half, while substitute Emmanuel Okwi also had his feeble free-kick saved.
Brian Umony's appeal for a penalty later in the second half did not pay off for Uganda as well.
The win for Togo, who took part in the 2006 World Cup in Germany, brightens their chances to qualify for the 2015 Afcon finals in Morocco if they can also get another win over the same side at home in Lome Wednesday next week.
Togo lost their first two games 1-2 to Guinea and 2-3 to Ghana.
"We are happy to get three points away in Uganda and we shall now fight to get another three next week at home," said Adebayor after the game.
