Members of the Indian community here paid rich tributes to Sharif Aslam, a veteran Urdu journalist, humourist, anchor and prominent member of the community, who passed away last month.

An event was organised by Bazm-e-Ittehad, Khak-e-Taiba Trust (KTT) and Twin Cities Youth Welfare Association in coordination with Urdu Academy, Noor Educational Society, Urdu Gulban, Telangana Non-Resident Indians Forum and Deccan Non-Resident Indians Group and well-known Indians recalled the contributions of Aslam, Arab News reported Thursday.

The event was attended by Aslam's close relatives and acquaintances.

Aslam helped organise many Urdu poetry events during his lifetime in Jeddah.

He was the president of a number of forums and a member of several associations.

Aslam hailed from Hyderabad in Andhra Pradesh and had many fans among the expatriates from all over India and Pakistan.

He had a 50-year stint in Urdu journalism during which he interviewed top-ranking literatures, poets, politicians and film stars.
