Two people, including a senior executive of a company, were arrested here for illegally selling portable Chinese ultrasound machines. Nineteen such machines were seized from them, police said Saturday.
Those arrested were identified as Satnam Singh Bains and Gautam.
Bains is the manager of a firm based in Manesar. He was caught red handed for selling two machines illegally.
"The duo was produced before the court Saturday. We are grilling them on a two-day police remand," Gurgaon Police Commissioner Alok Mittal told IANS.
"Police raided Bains' Delhi office at Saket and found that 69 such machines were imported and 35 of them were illegally sold in different parts of the country," Mittal said.
Managing director of Haryana's National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) Rakesh Gupta said the machines sold in Haryana were used by quacks for illegal sex determination of foetus.
Several such quacks were arrested from many parts of the state. Some of them disclosed that they bought the machines from Delhi and Gurgaon.
Gupta told police that a team, comprising NRHM and police officers, approached them as buyers and arrested the duo from Manesar. They used to sell one machine at the cost of Rs.1.25 lakh.
