Two killed as car rams into roadside shanty in UP

Two people were killed and two injured when a speeding car ran over them as they were sleeping in a roadside shanty here on Friday, police said.

The mishap took place at Badshahnagar -- 14 km from here -- in front of the Seeds Corporation office.

A woman and her son died in the accident while two others were critically wounded. The driver of the speeding Indigo car lost control and rammed into the shanty.

The three people sitting inside the car were caught by locals and handed over to police.

Inspector Mahanagar Sanjay Nath Tiwari told IANS that the dead were identified as Maya, 55 and her son Ravi Kumar, 24. The woman's grandson Vikas, 10, and a woman from the neighbourhood were critically injured in the accident.

On the basis of a complaint by the rickshaw puller whose family members died in the incident, an FIR has been lodged and the driver Krishna Kumar Sharma has been arrested.
