Two people were killed and over 20 others injured in a pile-up involving more than 10 vehicles in a tunnel in Japan's Higashihiroshima city on Thursday.
The accident occurred at around 7.30 a.m. in the Hachihommatsu tunnel on the Sanyo Expressway when a rear-end collision between two vehicles occurred, local police said, adding that following vehicles collided one after another, Xinhua news agency reported.
Some 70 people were evacuated from the tunnel, among whom one was in a state of the cardiopulmonary and was later confirmed dead.
Police later found another person dead in a car.
Fires in the tunnel were put out, police added.
