Istanbul, Oct 10 (IANS/EFE) Two senior Turkish police officers were killed and one was wounded Thursday in an attack by unidentified gunmen in the mainly Turkish city of Bingol.
People inside a vehicle fired shots at municipal police chief Atalay Urker and several of his senior officers as they were walking down a street in Bingol, Xinhua reported citing a media report.
Deputy chief Atif Sahin and inspector Huseyin Hatipoglu died in the attack, while Urker and a bodyguard were wounded.
The shooters sped away in their car and police launched a manhunt to track them down.
The attack came at the end of a day of relative calm that followed days of disturbances across Turkey amid protests by Kurds against Ankara's refusal to aid the Syrian Kurd enclave of Kobani, which is under siege by the jihadists of Islamic State.
Twenty-five people died in the unrest.
