Typhoon Kalmaegi makes landfall in China

Typhoon Kalmaegi Tuesday made landfall in south China.

The typhoon hit the island province of Hainan at a speed of 40 metres per second, Xinhua reported.

Hainan's Haikou Meilan International Airport cancelled 104 flights Tuesday.

The Sanya Phoenix International Airport in the resort city of Sanya has also canceled 69 flights.

In Lingao county, more than 4,300 fishing boats have been called back to shore and nearly 20,000 people have been evacuated.
