The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is not close to achieving the ability to predict earthquakes before their occurrence, the seismological authorities here have said.

The National Centre for Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) said it as a clarification following some media reports suggesting that the UAE is close to reaching the ability to predict earthquakes before they happen, The National reported.

NCMS, the country's only official source of information about earthquakes and weather, said it monitors seismic activity as it happens and there is no available method to predict earthquakes before they hit.
