Following large-scale damage to standing crops in many districts after Sunday's heavy rain and hailstorm, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav Monday ordered an assessment of the damage and immediate disbursement of financial aid to affected farmers.
An official spokesman of the state government said that officiating Chief Secretary VN Garg has been asked to review the damage after getting details from district magistrates of the affected areas. Heavy rain damaged the wheat and potato crop and lashed many parts of the state.
Meanwhile, a delegation of state BJP leaders submitted a memorandum to Governor Ram Naik. Led by party leader in the Legislatve Council, Hriday Narayan Dixit, the party demanded that the governor immediately instruct the state government to take up the matter of crop damage on a priority basis and disburse financial assistance to the affected farmers.
