The newly-elected district panchayat chiefs in Uttar Pradesh will be sworn-in on Thursday, an official said on Tuesday.
All divisional commissioners and district magistrates have been issued instructions regarding it. Preparations for the swearing-in are underway, Principal secretary, Panchayati Raj, Chanchal Tiwari, said.
Last week, the polling for the high-stake posts was conducted in 74 districts except Noida.
The ruling Samajwadi Party (SP) won 59 district panchayat chief posts, the Bharatiya Janata Party won five, Bahujan Samaj Party four and Rashtriya Lok Dal and the Congress bagged one each.
At three places, SP rebels won.
Tiwari also said the first meeting of the newly-elected district panchayat chiefs would be held soon after the swearing-in. The tenure of the incumbent panchayat chiefs will end on Wednesday.
