UPA's economic terrorism ruining country: CPI

Slamming the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) for its "involvement in scams", Communist Party of India (CPI) leader Gurudas Dasgupta Friday dubbed the centre's economic policies as "terrorism".

"UPA's economic terrorism has ruined the lives of the common people in the country," Dasgupta said while addressing a party meet here.

Slamming the coalition over several scams, the CPI central committee member held Prime Minister Manmohan Singh responsible for incurring losses to the exchequer due to the 2G spectrum scam.

"The prime minister is singularly responsible for the loss caused to state exchequer due to the 2G spectrum scam as he did not take any action to prevent it," said Dasgupta, and described the condition of the country as "critical and terrible".

He also took a dig at West Bengal's reigning Trinamool Congress.

"Those who are thinking that development can be brought in the state despite the severe economic conditions in the country are living in a fool's paradise.

"Just by disassociating itself from the UPA, it (Trinamool) cannot wash away its sins," said Dasgupta.

He also iterated the opposition Left Front's allegation the Trinamool was unleashing terror on rival parties.

"Individual liberty and democracy are in peril in West Bengal today. I think that capital of criminals is in West Bengal," said Dasgupta, referring to rising incidents of crimes against women in the state.
