The Lok Sabha Wednesday witnessed a war of words between members from Karnataka and Tamil Nadu over the Cauvery river water issue.
AIADMK member M. Thambi Durai raised the issue of reported construction of new projects on the Cauvery river by Karnataka.
He said since there was a dispute, no fresh project should come up on the river in Karnataka without consulting Tamil Nadu.
Terming the reported construction as a violation of the federal structure, Thambi Durai demanded an immediate intervention by the central government.
DMK's T.R. Baalu also wanted to raise the issue, but Speaker Meira Kumar reminded him that he had given notice to speak on a separate matter.
After this, members from Karnataka and Tamil Nadu rushed towards the speaker's podium, raising slogans against either side.
They withdrew for a while, but returned again raising slogans.
