Veteran actor V.S. Raghavan dead

Tamil actor V.S. Raghavan, who has nearly 1,000 films to his credit, breathed his last here Saturday, a family source said. He was 90.

Raghavan passed away due to old age-related problems in a private hospital.

Born in 1925, Raghavan started his career as a journalist with a Tamil magazine and worked as a sub-editor.

While working as a journalist, he started a drama troupe with his friends, Indian National Artistes, comprising of legendary filmmaker K. Balachander, Malli, Vadiraj and Nataraj.

At the age of 30, Raghavan entered cinema and mostly featured as the hero or heroine's father. He continued playing character roles for nearly six decades.

In the 1960s, Raghavan was a popular face in almost every film featuring actor M.G. Ramachandran.

Some of his best films include "Sumai Thaangia", "Kaadhalikka Neramillai" and "Nenjirukkum Vara". He was last seen in Tamil comedy "Oru Kanniyum Moondru Kalavaanikalum".

Raghavan is survived by two sons, daughters-in-law and a grandson. The last rites will be performed here Sunday.
