Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday met at his residence here the village pradhans (heads) from his Varanasi parliamentary constituency.
The Prime Minister encouraged the village heads to work towards total vaccination, zero school dropouts and cleanliness in their respective villages.
"The Prime Minister also urged the group to eliminate any discrimination between daughters and sons," the Prime Minister's Office said in a statement.
The group expressed its willingness to celebrate the birth of a girl child by planting a tree as a celebratory gesture.
"The Prime Minister also asked them to share the experience of their visit to Parliament and the Capital with the residents of Varanasi," the statement added.
