Violence Sunday erupted in a town in Pakistan's Sindh province over the alleged desecration of the holy Quran. Three people, including a policeman, were injured in clashes, an official said.
Police officer Anwar Laghari said the incident took place near Jinnah Bagh chowk in Larkana city after some people said they saw burnt pages of the Quran in a garbage bin next to the residence of a man who belongs to the Hindu community, the Dawn online reported.
The situation in the area turned tense following the incident and a 200-strong crowd gathered and attacked the minority community's temple in the area.
Police said the man, who was suspected to have burnt the holy book, was taken into protective custody.
Vehicular traffic remained sparse in the affected areas as a complete shutdown was observed.
Businesses, shops, filling stations and markets were closed in the town.
A ban on pillion riding was imposed in the city and additional police personnel were deployed.
